Construir lejos, comprender el lugar
Proyectar en un contexto distinto obliga a revisar lo que damos por supuesto. Una solución familiar puede resultar inadecuada por el clima, los materiales disponibles o la manera de organizar la construcción. La experiencia internacional adquiere sentido cuando ayuda a formular mejores preguntas, no cuando convierte un procedimiento en una receta. Antes de trasladar una respuesta, conviene entender quién utilizará el edificio, cómo se mantendrá y qué conocimientos aportan los equipos locales. Escuchar esas condiciones no reduce la ambición arquitectónica: le da un fundamento concreto. El proyecto se desarrolla así como una negociación entre una intención espacial y las posibilidades del lugar, evitando que la distancia sustituya al conocimiento.
El detalle como continuidad del proyecto
Un detalle constructivo no empieza cuando termina el diseño. La manera de resolver un encuentro puede modificar la proporción de un hueco, la profundidad de una fachada o la continuidad entre interior y exterior. Por eso, su desarrollo exige volver sobre las decisiones generales del proyecto. Dibujar ese encuentro permite comprobar si estructura, cerramiento e instalaciones responden a una misma intención. También obliga a reconocer tolerancias, secuencias de montaje y condiciones de mantenimiento. La precisión no consiste en eliminar toda incertidumbre, sino en identificar qué debe quedar definido y qué necesita contrastarse con quienes construyen. En ese intercambio, el detalle mantiene unida la idea arquitectónica con su realidad material.

The Fluid Gradient of Bandon Bay
PARALLEL STUDIO
This parallel studio is a unique collaboration between Aula PFC Aranguren (School of Architecture of Madrid, ETSAM, Polytechnic University of Madrid) and INDA, the International Program in Design and Architecture, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, and runs over the academic year 2015-2016. For two separate semesters, INDA’s Y4 option studio students are working on a common topic with ETSAM’s Y5 final thesis students, which is being coordinated by Marcelo Ruiz Pardo and Jaime Sanz de Haro.
The topic of this collaboration is Amphibious Architecture. We proposed research in the context of wetlands situated in both countries. The topic encompasses a broad range of issues regarding thresholds, ambiguity, resiliency, as well as adaptability. In the first semester, the projects were situated in the dynamic landscape of Cadiz's wetands in Spain, and in the second semester, the site is in Surat Thani, Thailand.
